Mistake 1: "DTG works on any fabric."

No. DTG works best on 100% cotton. Dark shirts need a white ink pretreatment (an extra step). Some synthetic fabrics like nylon or polyester may not hold the ink well. Always check fabric compatibility before buying.

Mistake 2: "Screen printing is always cheap."

Only for high volumes. Print 10 shirts with screen printing, and the setup cost per shirt will be several times higher than DTG. Screen printing gets cheaper the more you print. For small batches, it's actually the most expensive option.

Mistake 3: "All heat transfer paper is the same."

Far from it. The quality difference between cheap paper and premium paper is huge. Dollar-store transfer paper feels like a plastic sticker and cracks after two washes. If you go with heat transfer, don't skimp on the paper.
